Message from the Chair:

March is always a big political month, and this year it's especially true.  Caucus is two weeks from today, on the 16th, followed in short order by our County Assembly on the 27th, and wrapping up our Dem Super Saturday that evening with another can't-miss Annual Dinner!

Along with big events comes a big need for volunteers.  The political season heats up from here, and as you all are clearly aware, this year we'll need to be especially sharp out there on the trail.  Getting involved with your local party is the perfect way to see the difference your work makes, and it feels great to be surrounded with energetic folks working toward the same goal.  Sign up on our website or give us a call at 689-6391. . . and just show up on Saturday, March 13th for the big 2010 St. Patrick's Day Parade!  See below for parade details

Sun, Mar 7: BARACKFAST BENEFITTING SAMBURU YOUTH EDUCATION FUND
You know the story. Abuse of women is part of the history of humanity, and it still goes on in most places today. Everywhere, initiatives to educate young women defer pregnancy, improve local economies and reduce abuse of women.

Two breakfast fundraisers supported Greg Mortenson and his work to build schools and educate young women in Afghanistan and Pakistan. It's an issue that concerns all of us. And there are so many groups doing such good work...
I met Adam Beh serendipitously one evening at Ras-Ka. He's a Colorado State PhD student doing his environmental/education research in Kenya. His immersion in the culture called him to personal action, as it did his mentor and advisor, Brett Bruyere. Recognizing that personal individual efforts are not enough, they are establishing an NGO titled "Samburu Youth Education Fund." Their mission is to identify promising young students--primarily women-- and fund them to go on to secondary education and beyond.
Adam will join us for breakfast on Sunday, March 7th, and Brett may be here as well. We can enjoy photographs the Samburu have taken for some of Adam's projects, as well as beadwork from the Umoja village...a group of women who for myriad reasons have been shunned from their villages and have found refuge, sustenance and industry there.
Hanna, the inspired-Ethiopian who cooks Ethiopian-inspired cuisine at Ras-ka, plans to embellish the standard breakfast fare with African flair.
Together, we can help Adam and Brett get this NGO off the ground, and help 2-3 young women get into school!
Day & Time: Sunday, March 7, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Location:
Dan Shaner's home, 3401 Terryridge Road, Fort Collins
